QUALITY YOU CAN TRUST: Clinically proven to be as accurate as rectal measurements in newborns(3),(4)
WHY AN EAR THERMOMETER? The ear is in fact, a more accurate site to measure temperature as it allows for a more precise reflection of core body temperature3
QUICK AND EASY READINGS: Get fast and accurate age-based results in seconds. Gentle and hygienic to use with hygiene caps for cleanliness
The Braun ThermoScan 7 (model IRT-6520) is an infrared ear (“tympanic”) thermometer designed for home use. It’s built to provide fast, accurate temperature readings via the ear canal for all ages — newborns, toddlers, children, and adults. The device includes disposable hygiene lens filters (“Hygiene Caps”), a pre-warmed probe tip to reduce measurement error, features to help ensure correct positioning, and a memory function to track previous readings. It also incorporates “Age Precision®” technology so that what constitutes a fever is interpreted relative to the age of the person.
Directions
Remove the thermometer from the storage the on/off switch. During the internal self-test, the display displays all the elements. Then the last measured temperature is displayed for 5 seconds. The protective cap indicator flashes to indicate that a new cap needs to be attached. In order to allow accurate measurements, it is important to install a new, clean protective cap before each measurement.
Key Features
Here are the important features of the ThermoScan 7:
Feature What It Does / Why It’s Useful
Age Precision® Technology Lets you select the age group (0-3 months, 3-36 months, 36 months & above). The thermometer gives color-coded guidance (green/yellow/red) to indicate if the measured temperature is “normal,” “fever,” or “high fever” for that specific age group. This helps interpret the reading more intelligently.
ExacTemp® Positioning System Uses a light + beep to indicate when the probe is properly placed in the ear canal, helping reduce errors from misplacement.
Pre-warmed Probe Tip The tip of the probe is warmed so that the cold probe doesn’t depress the reading. This improves accuracy especially in situations where the thermometer is kept in a cooler room or after being stored in cooler conditions.
Disposable Lens Filters / Hygiene Caps To maintain hygiene and prevent cross-contamination, each use has a fresh lens filter (cap). The thermometer won’t work (or will show an error) unless a proper cap is in place.
Color-Coded Display & Fever Guidance After taking a reading, the display changes colour: green means no fever, yellow means moderate fever, red means high fever. This is tied to the Age Precision setting, so what’s “yellow” for a 2-year old might differ from a newborn.
Memory Function (Last Readings Stored) It recalls previous readings so you can see how temperature is changing over time. (Typically last 9 readings)
Fahrenheit / Celsius Switching Can display temperature in either unit, depending on user preference.
Fast Reading Measurement time is short (a few seconds). The pre-warmed tip + correct positioning help speed up getting a stable, accurate result.

Benefits
These features translate into several practical benefits:
1. More accurate & reliable readings
Since ear (tympanic) measurements are closer to core body temperature, using a properly positioned probe, warmed tip, and hygiene caps helps you get readings you can trust (less underestimation or variation).
2. Better interpretability for parents / caregivers
The age-based fever guidance with color coding takes out a lot of guesswork. You don’t have to know “normal” for different ages by heart — the device helps you.
3. Hygiene & safety
Disposable lens filters reduce risk of transmitting germs or ear infections between uses/users. Also, you avoid cleaning the probe lens directly each time (though occasional cleaning/maintenance is still needed).
4. Comfort & reduced stress
The pre-warmed tip means the probe feels less cold in the ear; the fast reading means less time trying to get the baby/toddler still etc.
5. Monitoring over time
Memory function helps you track whether fever is rising, plateauing, or coming down, which is useful in illness management.
6. Ease of use / fewer errors
The positioning sensor (light + beep), color cues, and simple operation reduce chances of incorrect readings caused by bad probe angle, wrong cap usage, etc.
7. One device for whole family
Because it covers newborns through adults, you don’t need separate thermometers; the age precision setting makes one device more versatile.
